Prof. Paul Yip

Prof Yip is the chair professor of population health at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration and the director of the Centre of Suicide Research and Prevention at the University. He has led a number of innovative suicide prevention projects and He is interested in promoting wellbeing in the community. His most recent monograph is on Understanding Poverty in Hong Kong. He is the Secretary General of Asian Population Association and Chair of the Research Committee of the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong. He served as the chairman of the committee of preventing students’ suicide and a member of the Steering Committee on Population Policy and an associate member of the Central Policy Unit of the Hong Kong SAR Government. He is a recipient of a medal of honor from the Hong Kong SAR Government, 2017; the IASP’s Stengel Research award in 2011, outstanding supervisor and researcher of the University of Hong Kong in 2011 and 2009 respectively; a distinguished alumni of La Trobe University in 2008. He has published more than 500 research papers relating to population health.
